SomEtimes I let my art mistakes get to me, I just lately happen to draw hind paws smaller than front and stuff, but I'm trying to work past that. ) anyway, you did a nice job, despite some errors

I hope you don't mind a small critique and a bit of redlining. I can tell you know how to use lighting and shading pretty well, but I'd say your canine anatomy is in need of some practice. Which is why I made this: sta.sh/0t5y7rjeoxz
As you can see, with the perspective you've used in this piece, the character's front legs seem to be too short, and there is very little room for the neck, forehead and the back of the head. Moreover, the right-side hind leg is way too small and in an odd angle. The knee is visible, so it makes it look like the distance between the pelvis and the knee is very (too) long. I made a little bit of a corrected version, seen here: sta.sh/090oenxs90n (without the long fur so it'd be clearer). I might've put the head a little bit too high, but at least you should be able to see what I'm talking about. So, with that said, I think you should look at references and keep in mind how the hind legs look, their angles and how they work. I hope this didn't come out as offensive in any way, as I mean no harm, just trying to give a bit of advice is all!

To all you people coming here solely to defend the artist, an advice: don't.

First off, the artist has already ackowledged the critique, admitted there are mistakes, and was an all around good sport about it. There's no need to "defend" anything.

Second, as you guys seem to come here only to say there is "nothing wrong" with the anatomy in this piece, how about an anatomy lesson. Now, look at this thing right here. Should be pretty self-explanatory. In all sorts of ways. The thing with perspective is, it follows the rules of anatomy no matter how funny it might make a thing look because of an angle, or how distorted it may look because of how it's depicted, but it doesn't rewrite anatomy, or change it. So blaming the perspective is also no good excuse. The leg bones are absolutely out of proportion, even with the perspective thing going on, and with that the character also seems to have some extraordinarily wide hips. Like, the horse kind of wide. In short, here is what I'm trying to say. The legs are proportionate with each other and the perspective doesn't change, either. If you want an even deeper distortion, just make the further leg a bit thinner the lower it goes, easy.

If we were to use the actual bone length of the legs in the original picture to draw the wolf casually standing, this is how it would look. Does it look right? I doubt it does, even for someone who "isn't very familiar with anatomy". And I mean, there's a little bit of foreshortening (which means it makes a thing look shorter because it's viewed slightly from the front) on the further leg in the actual picture, so the longer bone should actually be even longer when straightened out.

The one excuse I see being pushed up is how these are "different kind of wolves", never mind "bulky/sturdy/whatever" built. Well, let me tell you somethin'. Even species of a bulkier stature have a real, working anatomy and actual bones. Crazy, right? Besides, how does it matter they're not the usual kind of a wolf? They are still canines, and therefore should abide by the rules of canine anatomy. A member of a massive dog breed still has the exact same bones as the member of a small breed. So you take a massive wolf and a normal wolf and, surprise surprise, they have the same bone structure. I don't know why is it so difficult to understand.

Oh gosh :c, I had not admit to any mistakes. I just think it's very kind for one to take the time out of their lives to try and help another <3 Its very thoughtful and so sweet. If someone wanted my opinion personally on what I think on the pictures anatomy I will tell them o3o but not here now. Apparently there's been too much of a fuss over this D:! I ask that people take your arguments to notes if it's going to turn into this :c. Not calling anyone a bad guy ^-^. Please no more arguing here! (I will be basically copy pasting this to each comment so don't .. feel like attacking you or something specifically! I'm asking the others to take it to notes xD).

There's no argument here, I can say that much (or, at least, not on my part), just tossing opinions around, more like. I just got a little nagged out that people use poor excuses to cover errors, such as anatomy as we've discussed here, without any other constructive input whatsoever. Like, just because it's their favorite artist, it's like it's absolutely out of question there could be something wrong in a piece they made. It's not wrong to admit to them, if something it should help the artist grow as an artist, you know, to see what to do better next time.

Yeah. Just a thought.

Oh I'm just saying that in the comment I replied to, I didn't admit to agreeing to it bahaha xD. I'm not saying that there's absolutely no errors o3o. I just thanked them! And proceeded to explain that though its very kind to explain my errors, I actually do see my mistakes later on ^^. But because of that, I don't ask for crits, because I would like to at least enjoy my artwork before that. C:

However! For the people that supposedly come to 'defend' me. Some may be doing that, but some might not be :'O. We gotta keep an open mind about this yes? Cannot just assume ^^ Everyone should be able to express their opinion (as long as it's not rude and insulting haha). Some may see it differently than you and might actually think it looks perfectly fine in their eyes, and just want to add their opinion to it as well. Simply strike up a convo! They may not think of it as defending at all, they're just trying to be social bugs.

I understand what you're saying, and what you're saying is right (There could be some small improvements to anatomy), but they are a different species of wolves. They have larger heads and relatively shorter muzzles, and they're rather stocky as oppose to long and lithe (Like in your version).

I think the proportions are fine at this angle, in the one you sketched out the angle is different, it's more profile and less bird-eye.

I don't quite get why are you commenting your own opinion
to my critique. The artist herself already have responded to me.

I apologise for stating my opinion, as I was just commenting that it doesn't look off to me at that angle, but I guess it is an oblique angle, so that's probably why I can't see the off proportions which are generally easier to notice in more common poses because the eye is used to the appropriate anatomy. I didn't mean to sound rude at all, artists love critiques, I was merely saying that to me personally it doesn't look off. Even looking now it looks anatomically correct to me, but again it could be because my brain doesn't have a set parameter for anatomy at this angle.

Sorry again, but being a social website I find it common for people to comment on other's comments to gain greater insight into other people's perspectives on things. If you don't want anyone to comment except the artist, I'd recommend noting instead of commenting on a public page. Sorry again, didn't mean to offend, but it is a social website for a reason, so I don't see anything wrong with commenting (As long as it's not in a hateful or discriminatory manner).

I do understand this is a social website, but what I don't
understand is fans attacking someone who writes a critique
to their idol. They're just spreading their own opinions, and
I wouldn't care about what these fans are thinking about, also
it's just creating some unnecessary drama.
If the critique isn't pleasing, I'm pretty sure the artists theirselves
can say it.

If I may add a personal opinion of my own! I am not taking sides, you should know this yourself t1sk after the notes we've exchanged, I mean no harm to anyone ^^. Everyone may include a personal opinion, not everyone is out there to just defend me :)! Everyone thinks and sees differently, so it is definitely possible to some that picture simply looks fine /to them/, and that's okay! No worries :D. I truly believe Russet was just trying to be friendly and social and strike up a convo bringing up her own opinion ^^ and was not set on attacking you for your opinion.

But please, do not hate me for giving my two cents :O. Aaah do not hate her either.

However if you guys do plan on carrying out this conversation please take it to notes :c.

If you'd like to vent you can note me too o-o I don't mind.

Yeah, it's definitely ok to tell opinions, but I think it's not
very nice to reply it to the one who gave a critique, if it's
only showing how they see it...
Like "I think this and that could be better like this" and
then someone comes to say (not the actual artist) "Well
I don't agree with you, it should be like that", it gives an
impression the one who started was completely wrong
and the second one is bashing them for giving a critique. :'D

I didn't say it wasn't pleasing, I was just saying that to me, as an individual and fellow artist, the anatomy wasn't a major problem in this one. What I meant was that to me, with this angle, the legs looked accurate.
And please to the love of God don't think I'm attacking what you're saying. Because I'm not (Well, not intending to), I was, as said before, just commenting my own thoughts as after reading your critique I had a look at that part of the piece. I am in no way saying you're wrong and I'm right, because you are by no means wrong nor am I, by any means, right.
If you don't care what other people are thinking about then I apologise as I was originally hoping to engage in intelligent conversation with someone content with socialising. If I'd known you didn't care what other people thought, I wouldn't have commented as I have clearly upset you.
Once more, I'm sorry that I have created 'Unnecessary drama' when all I wanted was to partake in social interaction. I hope there's no bad blood, sorry again for disturbing you, I didn't wish to.

Sketch's proportions honestly look fine in this perspective in my opinion. Especially with his type of build hes not like your usual wolf in the first place either. Not trying to butt in and be rude though! Just figured since every ones giving opinions then what the hell.

Even if he's not like usual wolves, anatomy is basically the same
in all animals with only some differences in bone length and such.

Though I do agree with you, I would argue slightly on the neck thing, because wolf manes like sketch has is long, and he is muscular I Would think that when the fRont paws are out like so, if the head is down it would make it look like he had a small neck, between fur and muscle...just thought  I'd put that out there, merp

Oh dear, it's not offensive at all! It's very kind of you to have taken your time to present this all to me and point out the errors then draw out the fixes needed. Never fear though I do indeed see the errors later on in my artwork <3 (I never change them however unless I do a redo haha xD) Tis why I never ask for a crit, because I like to enjoy my artwork before I see all the mistakes ^^;

But still, it was very nice of you to make those correction doodles for me, thank you!
